Plot:
Thanks partially to good plot elements, Spartan is an intriguing film. Spartan’s quality writing is so high that we can excuse the movie’s subpar aspects. Is the plot enough to justify buying the film? Yes. But there are other reasons too.

Execution:
The writing isn’t wasted on subpar acting, production, and directing. We feel compelled to mention the true heroes of most movies — the production teams. They do well in Spartan. Though I was pleased with the film’s acting overall. Val Kilmer and Derek Luke were especially strong.

Entertainment:
Spartan is cool. It’s really a pleasure to watch. If some of your co-workers have not watched Spartan, it makes a great gift. They’ll thank you later.
